Alex’s specialty and first passion is training mobility service dogs. Nine of his fifteen-plus years training dogs were spent on specialized service dog work for disabled veterans and children — so you can say service dog training is our thing.

When training service dogs we focus on detail and on shaping a reliable dog that performs your medical tasks in public. We put an emphasis on your medical needs and adhere the training specifically to your daily tasks: fetching your meds, calling your nurse, turning lights on and off, opening doors, bringing a bottle of water. Anything a dog can physically do, we can shape or teach.

When turning your dog into a medical tool we do not cut corners. From basics to public access, we do it all according to the scientific studies conducted by our predecessors.

Emotional support

Emotional support dog training

Although emotional support dogs are similar to service dogs, they perform different tasks and have different public access rights. We treat our emotional support clients with the same detail as our service dog clients — especially when performing tasks and teaching them to be well behaved in public, all without the use of invasive methods like shock collars.

There is no doubt that Alex and his company iDog Academy is the best dog boarding and training service in Miami and quite possibly Florida. They know their stuff!!! We couldn't be happier with the experience we had at iDog Academy with Alex and his incredible team of trainers. We had a fantastic experience with both the boarding and training program. Alex did an outstanding job with Ollie and took the time to help us understand how to reinforce the training at home. What kinds of service dogs do you train?

Guide, hearing, diabetic alert, mobility assistance, seizure response, autism support, allergy detection and psychiatric service dogs. Mobility work is our head trainer’s specialty and first passion.

What is the difference between a service dog and an emotional support dog?

Service dogs are trained to perform specific tasks related to a handler’s disability and have broad public access rights under the ADA. Emotional support dogs provide comfort but perform no trained task and have different access rights. We train both, with the same attention to detail and no aversive tools.

Can you train my existing dog to be a service dog?

Often, yes — it depends on temperament, health and drive. We start with an assessment to be honest with you about whether your dog is a realistic candidate before you invest in a full program.
