Positive reinforcement dog training

Your dog learns that good things happen to him when he does the thing you like. Positive-reinforcement teaching techniques use non-confrontational methods to work a dog’s brain — rewarding positive behavior, establishing rituals, training actions that are incompatible with negative behavior, and lessening a dog’s anger and frustration, all while enabling the dog to feel good inside.

If you reinforce a dog’s desirable behaviors, there is less of a chance that she will indulge in other behaviors that you do not like. Decision-making is influenced without the use of force, and the dog’s trust in the owner is never violated through threatening treatment.

ASPCA® SAFER is a seven-item aggression assessment that identifies your dog’s comfort level with restraint and touch, and measures reaction to new experiences. It runs one hour, and the results shape everything we recommend afterwards.

Changing behavior without force

Using positive techniques to change undesirable behavior requires that you first determine the cause of the behavior, then figure out how to modify it by giving the dog the ability to learn and feel differently.

People learn to connect with their dogs and work through problems in a humane manner — strengthening the relationship by fostering mutual trust, providing affection and encouraging cooperation. Dogs taught using positive reinforcement methods are more tolerant, more self-controlled and behave much more predictably in different situations.

There is no doubt that Alex and his company iDog Academy is the best dog boarding and training service in Miami and quite possibly Florida. They know their stuff!!! We couldn't be happier with the experience we had at iDog Academy with Alex and his incredible team of trainers. Our dog stayed for three weeks of boarding and training, and the level of professionalism, care, and communication exceeded every expectation. One of the things that stood out most was the constant updates and video footage they sent throughout our dog's stay. What training methods do you use?

Positive reinforcement, clicker training, model rival (mirror) training and L.I.M.A. — least intrusive, minimally aversive. We do not use shock collars or other aversive tools. Our methods are science-backed and taught to every team member personally by Alex.

How does the process start?

We build a profile for your family, then schedule a private lesson where we run an ASPCA SAFER assessment plus temperament and drive evaluations. From there we recommend the program that actually fits your dog and your goals, and build a customized plan around it.

How long does board and train take?

Most dogs are with us for two to four weeks depending on their starting point and your goals. Behavior cases often need longer. Your assessment determines the recommended length before you commit to anything.

Do you pick up and drop off?

Yes. We collect your dog from your home and drive them directly to our facility in Miami, then bring them back when the program ends. Add pick-up to any booking.
